Rigid Inclusions
Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC)
Menard developed Controlled Modulus Columns in the 1990s to overcome problems of lateral confinement in highly compressible and organic soils. They are now used in all types of soil (cohesive or granular) up to depths of 30 metres or more. Learn more

Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD)
Vertical drains, also known as prefabricated vertical drains or wick drains, are made up of a plastic core surrounded by a geotextile that acts as a filter to prevent clogging. Learn more
EPH Control Headquarters – Cork City
Menard Ireland delivered a design-and-build ground improvement solution for EPH Controls’ state-of-the-art facility. The project incorporated Menard Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) rigid inclusions and Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVDs) to 18 meters depths, combined with surcharge construction and settlement monitoring.
This approach allowed for standard shallow foundations, including slab-on-grade, strip footings, and pad foundations, over the improved soils.
In total, 11,500 linear meters of CMCs and 35,700 linear meters of PVDs were installed. Load tests and settlement monitoring confirmed the solution’s success, ensuring long term reliability and accelerated completion.
Working with CField construction and DL Group Consulting Engineers, Cork based companies, was a wonderful experience and we are looking forward to work on many more brilliant projects.
